I fancied painting something different to my Beastmarines, so after routing though my bits cupboard for a while I found the Skull Pass Night Goblins that I got of a friend who is trying to get me into WHFB, so sitting down for an afternoon netted 10 painted Gitz

Enjoy

There are a few bits that I need to do to finish them off, I’m thinking about adding the white flame hood detail to the whole unit, partly as a way of telling different units from one another, and partly because I think it would look ace

Once thats done I need to pop some random patches of flock, and make some green stuff mushrooms, as night goblins love them some mushrooms

Hey all, I’m going to try writing up my weekly games at my FLGS, so for those interested you can hopefully expect a weekly wall of text detailing my misadventures in the GrimDark

Overview

Right this game was a bit of a mess, as it was the first time my opponent has used his Nid force. The first time I’d used a bunch of the options within my army, namely my shiny new Terminotaur and Saga of the Beastslayer on my Lord. It was also my first game vs nids, so I didn’t know how to handle them, so likely made a ton of tactical mistakes.

My List

Wolf Lord on TWC with Storm Shield, Power Weapon, Saga of the Beast Slayer, 2x Fenrisian Wolves and a Talisman

3x TWC with Storm Shield and Thunder Hammer

Lone Wolf in TDA with Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield and 2x Fenrisian Wolves

5x Grey Hunters with Melta in a Las-plas Razorback

5x Grey Hunters with Melta in a Las-plas Razorback

5x Grey Hunters with Flamer in a Las-plas Razorback

6x Long Fangs with 5x Missile Launcher

6x Long Fangs with 5x Missile Launcher

Vindicator with Siege Shield

5x Wolf Scouts with Melta

Their List (From memory, so bits might be off, as well was wargear options)

Hive Tyrant with wings and two scything talons.

Doom of Matalan in a Droppod(I know its malan’tai, but calling him Doom of Matalan amuses me )

Marloc

Trygon

8x Out flanking Genestealers

12x Out flanking Hormagaunts

2x Tervigon

2x 16x Termagaunts

Table

We played on a 6′x4′ table with an awesome amount of terrain on, in the center was a Tower, with a bunch of destroyed buildings surrounding it. and lots of random trees. While looking pretty it did hamper LOS for my Long Fangs, but thats all part of the fun Both board edges had a hill just left of the center.

Setup

We rolled table quarters, and 3 objectives. One was placed in his home quarter, one in mine and one in the center. I won the roll and opted to go first. I picked to go on the left half of my board, and deployed most of my army in a forest on the hill with my two melta razorbacks to my left board edge giving me covering fire into much of his deployment zone. My hope was that this would give me some cover for when the Nids got to me, allowing me to strike first vs some of the smaller guys.

He deploys in the opposite corner, with his Winged Hive Tyrant and Marloc closer to his left board edge behind a bunch of buildings.

He tries to steal the initiative and rolls a 5, my turn one.

My Turn One

I move my two Razorbacks into his half of the table and shoot his Trygon, hitting with both lascannons, and wounding once. My Long Fangs shoot at his units of Termagaunts, killing half a squad each. Unfortunately I couldn’t draw LOS to any of his big bugs. My third Razorback and Vindi can’t see anything, so sit their idly. My Lone Wolf moves towards the center of the board, hoping to find a big beasty.

His Turn One

One of his Tervigon’s spawns 15 gaunts, with a double 6 and other doesn’t spawn anything, the gaunts basically replace those that died in my last turns shooting. He burrows his Marloc, his Winged Tyrant moves close to my army, still hiding in cover. His Trygon moves into cover in his home objective.

My Turn Two

I roll for my wolf scouts and fail to bring them on. I move my two flanking Razorbacks closer to his quarter, one moves 12″ the other 6″ in the hope of being deep enough in that if his Stealers and Hormagaunts come on from that edge I’ll be out of charge range. I move my Lone Wolf back towards my army, as fighting hordes of Termagaunts isn’t his forty.

I move my TWC deeper into the wood for the same reason, as I’d much rather shoot stealers, and get eaten by them I move my Vindi closer to the center so I can draw LOS to his gaunts. Shooting and scattering by 7″ into nowhere joy

I shoot and at his newly spawned Termagaunts with one unit of Long Fangs, and kill half. The other unit shoots one of the half dead units, and kill all but three. The Razorback that moved 6″ shoots the Trygon, hits and fails to wound.

His Turn Two

He rolls for his reserves, and gets all three, Matalan bravely drops into a clearing in the forest just behind my Long Fangs, his marker is about 6″ from the board edge, so any deviation and Matalan is asking for it, fortunately for him he rolled a hit. Both his stealers and Hormagaunts come in on my left edge, just behind the Razorbacks.

His non-barren Tervigon spawns 12 gaunts on unique rolls, and spawns them in his home ruin.

The Marloc surfaces away from my lines, as doing so would risk his Matalan and outflanking troops. His Trygon jumps over the ruins and heads towards the center. And his hordes of Termagaunts and Tervigon stream into the center.

His winged Tyrant flys towards my Vindi, launches his assault and wrecks the tank

The Stealers fleet towards the Razorback that moved 12″ and the Hormagaunts fleet towards my Long Fangs, both get within charge range.

The Doom of Matalan uses his lame arse Leech Life and kills 3 Long Fangs and put two wounds of different TWC. So how he has strength 8 attacks or something daft, joy.

The stealers assault the Razorback, 21 attacks, 2 hits, 1 glance and it can’t shoot next turn. The Hormagaunts assault my Long Fangs, I get my counter charge roll off, he kills 3 I kill 3, drawn combat /me dance.

His Doom of Matalan charges my Long Fangs and nothing does, so combat is drawn. I later realised that this is an illegal move, as you can’t assault after a deep strike, oh well

My Turn Three

I roll for my scouts, and the come on behind the stealers.

I move my Razorback that got hugged by the Stealers 12″ towards his home objective, hoping that my Scouts would prove to be a good diversion allowing the marines to make their escape.

I move my Razorback thats current in my forest towards the center of the board, the marines jump out and flamer the gaunts on the center objective. I did this mainly to clear the path for me to assault the Doom of Matalan with my Lone Wolf. The TWC and Lord move towards the engaged Long Fangs fighting the Hormagaunts. I fire a lascannon at his Trygon and wound it.

My Lord and TWC assault the Hormagaunts, the lord killing 5, and the regular guys finishing off the swarm. My Lone Wolf assaults Doom, and wounds him twice, but he kills the other two Long Fangs and ends up on 8 wounds.

His Turn Three

His stealers move towards my scouts, buying my marines some time to regroup. His Termagaunts move towards the center, which is now teaming with far to many little guys, his Trygon moves towards tiny 3 man Long Fang unit and his Tyrant moves towards my 5 man flamer squad.

His stealers charge and wipeout the scouts, his Trygon charges and kills the 3 Long Fangs, and his Tyrant kills all of the 5 man flamer squad. Doom does nothing to the Long Wolf, and the Lone Wolf does 1 wound to him. He passes his no-retreat roll, down to 7 wounds.

My Turn Four

I jump all my marines out of their transpots, as they are all within 12″ of the Trygon that killed my Long Fangs. My TWC move and fleet towards the Trygon. Two las-plas razorbacks, 8 rapid firing bolters and two melta guns kill the Trygon in a hail of dakka.

Doom of Matalan Leeches the life out of my Lone Wolf, I rolled like 15 on three dice, causing 7 wounds, and I failed two, and unfortunately I would take any Feel no Pain rolls so he died.

My TWC and Lord are close enough to his Tyrant to charge in.

The Tyrant hits and kills 1 TWC, and the Lord and Storm Shield make their invulnerable saves. The Lord half kills the Tyrant, and the Thunder Hammer finishes him off.

His Turn Four

His stealers fleet and assault my disembarked Grey Hunters, wiping them out. His gaunts move to re-capture his home objective, and the center of the board objective. Doom moves towards the center, but is out of range for his Leech Life power.

Game Over

Unfortunately it was kick out time, so we couldn’t finish the game, but it was surprisingly close, He’d killed 12 Long Fangs, 5 marines 5 scouts one TWC and my Lone Wolf, and I’d killed His Tyrant, Trygon, 2 units of gaunts and 1 unit of Hormagaunts and was in a position to kill his Stealers, and assault into his Tervigons with my TWC, though with the Doom of Matalan moving closer it was anyone game.

Overall the game was very fun, although I completely forgot to ever roll my Beastslayer rerolls vs Doom of Matalan and his Tyrant. And Doom assaulting my Long Fangs early on messed things up, because I could have opened up on him with a torent of fire and hopefully killed him off had he not illegally(afaik) charged.

I’ve got a rematch next week, so I’ll me tweaking my list to get some much needed psychic defence, and we’ll have to see if I can remember my rerolls

One of the requirements is that nothing be more than 50% and that I provide a range of WIP shots, so following are those early photos, sorry about the quality of the shots, its late in the evening so had to use an electric light

Onto the pics, as per, sorry about the nastiness of the photos, they were taken with my phones camera

If your wondering why the bases haven’t been covered in static grass its because I’m wanting to give them a coat of vanish, but its pretty cold outside, and the cold tends to turn hardcoat into a fake snow like spray, which kind of ruins the model

Those that have read my blog in the past will know that I’m pretty into my 40k, but a good friend has been *cough* asking *cough* me to start Fantasy, so I took a look at the range and was instantly drawn to the horde armies such as Night Goblins and Skaven. Then I started to look at the model counts and got scared, so I’ve opted to roll with my seconded choice, Warriors of Chaos.

I really like the idea of a bunch of mentally hard guys running around curb stomping anything and anyone they find, and Khorne rocks socks, so they two just fit

So I got me a box of Warriros, as they are the staple of any WoC army, or at least thats what “the googles” tells me

Still need to do the base, was thinking about mixing some static grass, weathering powder and PVA glue to make a thick muddy paste.

In my proxied 1500 point list I ‘ve been pretty underwhelmed by my Rune Priests performance, likely due to its strengths being a ranged supporting HQ, rather than choopy choopy death. So to solve this issue I’ve added a Lord and his army of pets

I’ve opted to load him out with the obvious Thunder Wolf Cavalry mount, Frost Axe, Storm Shield, Neckless, Wolf-tail talisman and Saga of the Wolfran. I realise this is a pretty standard build, but it fits a hole I felt my army had

I’ve yet to use him in a game, but with 6 strength 6 attacks on the charge I can’t wait

I used the older metal Chaos Lord model from the fantasy range as the base for this conversion. I added Minotaur horns into the temple grove on the Blood Crushers head, I feel this nicely brings the Chaos heavy model inline with my Beastmarine theme

I tried to weather the armour slightly just to break up the green, unfortunately unlike with the standard Beastmarines the green is very overpowering, which is why he will be joined by 15 fuzzy friends.

Heres my lord rolling with his ‘Fenrisian Boarz’ I’m hoping that ‘Saga of the Wolfran’ makes this a really choppy unit, though time will tell

Here you can see the 15 ‘Fenrisian Boarz’

This tutorial is used to create the following conversion.

Hey, this is my first attempt at writing an article detailing a conversion that I’ve worked on, so please bear with me.

Beastmarines for those unfamiliar with my army, are a herd of genetically divergent humans who are fiercely loyal to the Imperium, but due to their genetic mutations are treated with suspicion. So basically they are beastmen in power armour, but due to the nature of there existence have to salvage the majority of their war gear and thus look pretty beat-up, cool glad we got that cleared up

So now onto the actual tutorial bit of this post, for this build you will need a complete beastman model, either a gor or bestigor, unfortunately the ungor models are a bit to small, but make awesome scouts. A complete space marine from the belt up. For extra credit any additional gubbins you have laying around will come in handy, largely due to the salvaging nature of the herd.

Once you have your supplies collected you need to cut the gor/bestigor in half, just below the nipple.

When I’m doing this step I like to use the razor saw mainly because it lets me be pretty accurate where I make the cut. If using a knife be careful here, as the plastic is pretty think you run the risk of slipping and doing yourself an injury.

Once you have the top cut off, you’ll want to remove the overhang from the back of the beastman, on the original model this bit was its overly pronounced shoulders.

For this I used a pair of plastic cutters.

Next you want to start shaping the back of the body section. Basically the goal here is to round off the stump so from the models belt it goes strate up, and towards the top curves into meet the front of the model.

The idea is to basically make a ball and socket join, much like on the standard space marine legs. Leave the front of the model along, further into the build we’ll discuss how to get it to line up nicely.

Next up is to grab a standard marine torse, both from and back. We need to cut off the belt, and by extension the tummy plate, bit with the power cables. This is because the beastman model already has a belt sculpted onto the model, and it looks a bit odd having two belts.

The front of the torse should end up looking like this…

When I was building this model I forgot to take a photo of the back part of the torso, but I just but above the belt line and it should all line up with the above section.

Once you have your torso shaped you can now start trimming the body’s front section to match the shape of this armour segment. This set is pretty hard to take photos of, but the process is basically lining up the torse on the body, and marking which bits need to be gone, then cutting them off.

The end result should look like this…

Now once that’s all done you can go ahead and glue the body to its base, glue the torso together and then onto the body. Because the marine torso is largely untouched arms and the backpack should fit with no issue, for this model I used regular arms from the space wolves sprue, but you can also use arms from either of the gor on bestigor kits, as the scale between the two sets of arms is pretty much identical.

Once you have attacked your arms and backpack your model should look simular to this.

How we run into our first problem, you’ll notice a large gap between the models spine, and the backpack, this is because of the marines armoured arse Now we can’t leave our beastmarine in this state, because well its pretty ugly and or comical depending on your outlook on life. This is where the extra credit gubbins comes in handy.

Personally I like to glue a shield in this gap, as it looks pretty cool, and helps bring the beastmen back to there fantasy roots. Though one of my Wolf Guards is carrying his combi-weapon in this void.

In this case I have used a square shield from WFB goblin kit.

Now the last stage, here we need to give this guy a head, on the gor kit you’ll notice a bunch of different horns, unfortunately using all of them is pretty tricky, as there are two main types, the straight horns, and the ones shaped like rounded goat horns.

The problem with the rounded horns is that they are tricky to fit due to the marine shoulder pads, so I tend to not use them, unless the pose allows. You’ll more than likely need to only use the straight horns.

This guy is the leader for my Long Fang squad, so I have used bestigor parts over the standard gor.

Hope that you enjoyed my first tutorial Any comments of critiques on the style and quality would be awesome.

Thanks for reading.

Hey, finally gotten around to finish off my dreadnoughts droppod, unlike with the Dreadnought I decided not to apply large amounts of battle damage, mainly because one the dreadnought lands the pod is pretty inoffensive, unlike its cargo

I did on the other hand decide to got slightly over the top with when applying some forge world weathering powder, firstly I mixed some ‘Orange Rust’ in with some water and painted it on in between the armour segments. Once that had dried I then flicked on some more rust water combo using a lollypop stick and a dry brush. The technique is basically dry brushing, though you dry brush the stick to get the pigment to spatter the hull.

Once the rust had fully dried I then mixed some ‘Black Soot’ and caked the lower half of the droppod, once the pigment has dried I then took some tissue paper and started to rub off any pigment on the edges. I also made sure to leave smudge marks along the hull.

Right enough text, onto the piccys

Next up is building my second Grey Hunters squad and a unit of Long Fangs.
